In celebration of the human-animal bond through improved veterinary care, CoastView Veterinary Hospital staff members have been following the Fear Free℠ Initiative and now have Fear Free Certified Professionals on their team.
Developed by “America’s Veterinarian,” Dr. Marty Becker, the Fear Free Initiative aims to “take the ‘pet’ out of petrified” by removal or substantial reduction of the known triggers that can cause pets to feel anxious, stressed, or fearful. These methods and protocols create an experience which is more rewarding and much safer for all involved; the pets, the pet owners, and the veterinary healthcare team.
“I am so excited to have completed my Fear Free certification courses,” said veterinarian and business owner Laura Schultz, DVM. Dr. Schultz, along with the veterinary hospital’s office manager, Diane Ledford, are the first to be officially certified as Fear Free Professionals in the Clairemont area of San Diego. “These methods are a great way to approach just about any animal, but they are particularly effective for creating a positive experience with the pet dogs and cats we see every day here at our clinic and during house call visits.”
Although the official individual certification program was just launched on March 31, 2016, the entire staff at CoastView Veterinary committed to the Fear Free Initiative months earlier as Schultz had previously attended Dr. Becker’s live seminars related to the Fear Free movement. Today, all staff members are enrolled in the official course curriculum required to achieve Fear Free Certified Professional status on an individual basis.
“We’ve already received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from our clients,” said Dr. Schultz. “And reading through our online reviews continues to further validate what we’ve known in our hearts; it’s the right thing to do and it just makes sense.”
